Principal’s Message: Week of November 2nd

Greetings Rolfe Family,

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middle School, with a few reminders and important notices for the week!

Parents and guardians:

The “JRMS Parent Portal” is a one-stop-shop for many parent resources. Please save/bookmark and click on the necessary links for your reference.

  • Nov. 1st – Daylight Savings Ends (Set all clocks back 1 hour!)
  • Nov. 2nd – is a Day 1
  • Parent/Teacher Conferences: Monday, November 2nd(4-6 pm) and Tuesday, November 3rd (9-11 am). This year we are glad to host two days for evening conferences.  We realize that this is a National Election year, yet we are offering additional time for morning hours on Tuesday. Remember parents/guardians are welcome to request a parent conference (after school or during teacher planning) outside of the designated window if these times do not agree with our schedule.
  • Scheduling your conference is easy as should be as easy as 1, 2, 3.
  1. Please use the link below to access Your child’s teacher conference schedule. Link for Sign-Ups:
  2. Review the video if you need assistance with signing on:  Sign-Up Video Directions for Families. Once you review, please go back and select your conference times.  A link for conferences and the Video Directions will also be found on our school website.  If you do not have internet access, you will need to contact the teacher to arrange a time by calling the school and leaving a message for the teacher.
  3. Please bring a plan for your child’s success to the conference.  You, your child/our student, and his or her teacher will all share the commitment of moving our Rising Rolfe Scholar to excellence.  So, families talk with your child about this expectation in advance. Remember our students are always a part of the solution.  Their commitment to their own success matters!
  • In-Person Learning: In-person learning for secondary students will begin the second semester.  Students will attend school on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Wednesdays have been designated as Wellness Wednesday and everyone will work virtually.
  • A reminder of notice from Andy Jenks (October 30th email)

As you know, on Oct. 22, the School Board adopted a plan that would enable a phased expansion of in-person learning, starting Nov. 30 with younger elementary students having the option to return in-person, and concluding with middle and high school students having that same option in February.

An important part of planning for the second nine weeks and the second semester is to dedicate the time necessary to carefully understand your family’s individual situation and intentions as we continue expanding access to in-person learning opportunities. As part of that, we must ask for your commitment for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year: Which students will continue their learning virtually? Which students will attend school in-person? What unique circumstances need to be heard and addressed? Our schools are beginning that process with what’s known as the Student Intent Form. At this time, we kindly ask that you please complete the form for ALL students in your household by Sunday, Nov. 8.

How to access the Student Intent Form:

  • The form is located within the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
  • Sign in using your PowerSchool Parent Portal username and password.
  • Once signed in, locate the menu item called “Access Online Forms”.
  • From there, select your student(s) name(s) and follow the instructions on the screen for each student.
  • The instructions will point you to a link for “Student Intent 2020-21”.
  • Need to create a PowerSchool account? Start here for detailed instructions and a how-to video.
  • If you are unable to access the Student Intent Form through PowerSchool, please contact your school for assistance. Schools will be prepared to take your information in other ways.
