Principal’s Message: Week of March 8th

Greetings Rolfe Family,

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middle School, with a few reminders and important notices for the week!  This week we continue with Full Parallel Hybrid Learning for all students who selected this option.  Whether this is your first time in the building or you are a returning student take a moment to review our video if you haven’t already done so: Getting to Know Rolfe

Parents and guardians:

March 8th:  We will welcome back more of our students, as 7 and 8th Graders will join 6th Graders for in-person learning if their parents have selected this option.  Return to Learn Health forms/COVID Screening forms are due prior to any student returning to the building.  You may complete it online or contact the school for a copy of the forms.

 

HCPS-COVID-19-Health-Screening-Acknowledgement-for-Students.   Please fill out both pages. Page 2 is for you to keep at home, page 1 should be turned into the office prior to the student’s arrival.

  • New JRMS-Full Parallel Hybrid Day Schedule begins tomorrow- Click here to see our   Daily Bell Schedule as we return to school for Full Parallel Hybrid Learning.  Our lunch period will occur during the 3rd and 7th periods.  Please check with your child’s teacher to determine his/her specific lunchtime.
    • Day 1 – Mondays and Thursdays
    • Day 2 – Tuesdays and Fridays
    • Wednesdays – Asynchronous after the 8:30-9:00 am Advisory period
  • Attendance is taken in the learning environment in which the student is assigned. Those students with confirmed In-person assignments must attend school (face to face) in order to be marked present and those students with Virtual learning assignments will follow the attendance practice for virtual learning that is already in practice.
  • Clinic and First Aide – Our teachers are equipped to handle minor cuts/bruises and first aid, and our nurse will address major health issues.
  • Transportation- Bus Schedules, stops, and routes are located in PowerSchool.

Below are a few reminders:

  • Masks are required and must be worn appropriately on students’ faces.
  • Students should practice keeping masks on for longer times throughout the day. While at school, masks must be kept on for a longer period of time than those to which students may be accustomed.
    • Immunizations and Health History Forms: – There are several forms that are required prior to returning to school.

The deadline for middle school students is April 15, 2021. The 8th-grade deadline is aligned with high school since those students will be moving to high school for the 2021-2022 school year.

Henrico Community Event: Harriet, the free drive-in movie sponsored by Henrico Parks and Rec will be showing at Hermitage High School instead of Meadow Farms on Saturday if the rain holds out. Wellness Wednesday and SOL Testing Updates

February 24, 2021

Asynchronous Wellness Wednesday

Feb. 24th – This is a reminder that tomorrow begins our Asynchronous Wellness Wednesdays. Wednesdays will provide all middle school students with a variety of opportunities for both synchronous and asynchronous virtual instruction. Students will be engaged with their classroom teacher virtually from 8:30-9:00 each Wednesday. Students will have the opportunity to work on previously assigned academic work as listed below and to engage with teachers for feedback and support.

When & What

  • Middle School Advisory will occur from 8:30- 9:00 am.
  • After 9:00 am on Wednesday, teachers will guide students on their individual academic paths.

Middle School Asynchronous Learning Path (9:00-2:00 PM). This includes teachers’ office hours (9:15 – 10:30 am).

  • Student Assignments/Tasks For the Day: Complete previously assigned assignments provided by the teacher.
  • Attendance for the day

* Students should attend Advisory to be marked present for the day.

* Please note: One asynchronous assignment can besubmitted for attendance for students who do not attend Advisory.

Variance Deadlines Reminder

February 22, 2021

Variance deadlines for the 21-22 school year will not change since the learning model doesn’t impact variance applications.

The deadline for high school and rising 9th graders is February 15th.

The deadline for rising 1st – 8th graders is April 15th.

The deadline for rising KG is 30 days from the day of the child’s enrollment.

  • The Month of February- This is the time to submit all Health Forms.  All Student Health forms must be completed and return prior to students’ return to in-person learning. You may complete them online or contact the school for a copy of the forms.

  • February 24th – First Asynchronous Wednesday (Advisory and Independent/ Asynchronous Learning)

    • Student Mask Pick Up:   We will be holding a JRMS Drive-Thru for all students who will be attending in-person learning.  The purpose of this drive-thru is to:
      • Turn in your completed COVID Acknowledgement Forms, and
      • Pick up a student mask for in-person learning.
      • The drive-thru will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 23rd from 3:30 – 5:00 at the bus loop.  If you are returning to in-person learning, we look forward to seeing you then.

Immunizations and Health History Forms: – There are several forms that are required prior to returning to school.  Immunizations are also required for school whether the student is participating in virtual or in-person learning.   Please remember to fill out your child’s Health History Form and other HCPS Health Forms. If your child is returning to in-person learning at any time, please complete the forms on the link below as soon as possible.  If there are additional questions, please contact our school nurse using the information below.

      • Staff and students are required to wear face masks/appropriate face coverings while physically at school. It is expected that all students on campus for learning must comply with this requirement at all times during the school day (with the exception of lunchtime or other instances when staff may have approved of the temporary removal of the face covering).  This includes, but is not limited to, school buses, classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, and when entering/exiting the building during dismissal.  Additionally, students must adhere to social distancing guidelines and follow directions to ensure proper spacing is occurring in all areas.
      • Failure to comply with the requirements of wearing face masks/coverings and/or adhering to distancing guidelines will be addressed by the school administration. Consequences for non-compliance include but are not limited to; removal from the in-person learning environment.  In order to ensure adherence to our HCPS Health Plan, it is imperative that all individuals on our campuses follow all elements of the plan for everyone’s safety.
      • Note – Face masks/coverings should fit snugly, but comfortably against the side of the face, be secured with ties or ear loops, include multiple layers of fabric, and allow for breathing without restriction.

Greetings Rolfe Family,

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middles with an important notice for the week! It was great to see so many families during our Virtual Curriculum Night last Thursday. I am delighted we all had an opportunity to share across the breakout channels.

Parents and guardians:

By now you have received the message from Andy Jenks regarding school closure for Monday,  February 15th.  I am reaching out to alert you that our Virtual Parent-Teacher Conferences are still scheduled for this week.  If there is a change due to inclement weather, you will be notified.

  • Monday, February 15th – School closed due to inclement weather.
  • Tuesday, February 16th – Virtual Parent/Teacher Conferences: Tuesday, February 16th (3:30-6 pm).  This year we are glad to host two days for evening conferences.  We realize that school is closed tomorrow due to inclement weather.  We will watch our weather reports and news update regarding any changes to the  February 16th date.  Remember parents/guardians are welcome to request a parent conference (after school or during teacher planning) outside of the designated window if these times do not agree with our schedule.

    • New Timeline for Gradual Return:
      • Feb. 22-23: In-person learning for students in pre-K through grade 2 who chose the in-person option. Virtual learning for all other students.
      • Feb. 24: Wellness Wednesday for all students (abbreviated virtual learning and/or independent study).
      • March 1-2: In-person learning for students in pre-K through grade 5, as well as students in grade 6 and grade 9 who chose the in-person option. Virtual learning for all other students.
      • March 3: Wellness Wednesday for all students (abbreviated virtual learning and/or independent study).
    • Student Mask Pick Up:   We will be holding a JRMS Drive-Thru for all students who will be attending in-person learning.  The purpose of this drive-thru is to:
      • Turn in your completed COVID Acknowledgement Forms, and
      • Pick up a student mask for in person learning.
      • The drive-thru will take place on February 10th and 11th from 3:30 – 5:00 at the bus loop.  If you are returning to in-person learning, we look forward to seeing you then.

Immunizations and Health History Forms: – There are several forms that are required prior to returning to school.  Immunizations are also required for school whether the student is participating in virtual or in-person learning.   Please remember to fill out your child’s Health History Form and other HCPS Health Forms. If your child is returning to in-person learning at any time, please complete the forms on the link below as soon as possible.  If there are additional questions, please contact our school nurse using the information below.

  • Variance Request
    • The deadline for middle school students is April 15, 2021. The high school (grades 8-11) deadline for submitting a variance request is February 15th and the elementary and middle (K – 7th) school deadline is April 15th. The 8th-grade deadline is aligned with high school since those students will be moving to high school for the 2021-2022 school year.

The deadline to request a variance for high schools is February 15, 2021. Variances may be considered only under circumstances as outlined in R6-03-001 School Assignments/Variance Procedures.
