Greetings Rolfe Family,

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middle School.  I hope this message finds your family safe and well!  Below are a few reminders and import links as well as notices for the week.

Parents and guardians:

  • Monday, Sept. 21st – is a Day 2
    • Attached is a link to our Day1/Day2 Calendar for assistance HCPS Day1/Day 2 School Calendar. I suggest you print or add to the favorites on your electronic device.
    • We begin our virtual schedule at 8:30 am.  Between 8- 8:15, work to get students logged on for the day. JRMS _Middle School Bell Schedule
    • The “JRMS Parent Portal” is a one-stop-shop for many parent resources.  Please save/bookmark and click on the necessary links for your reference. Click on this link:  JRMS Parent Portal
  • Back to School forms are due Sept. 20th – Even though the year has begun in a predominantly virtual format, there are still some traditional things our schools must collect. That includes back-to-school forms!
  • This message contains a reminder of how to complete your back-to-school forms (deadline is Sept. 20)   (Desplazar el cursor hacia abajo para leer este mensaje en español.)  New this year: Families of students in ALL grade levels can complete those forms online by using the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Just follow these steps:
  1. Log on to your account in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  Don’t have a parent portal account yet? Create one by going to the PowerSchool section of this page: https://henricoschools.us/online-services/ and clicking on “New User Information”. 
  2. Once logged in to PowerSchool, look for “Access Online Forms” on the left-hand side of the page.
  3. That will take you to “Rycor Online Forms” (part of a website known as “StudentQuickPay.com”)
  4. Find your student(s) name(s) at the top of the screen. Click on each name and carefully read then follow the instructions on the screen. Repeat this process for each student enrolled in HCPS.

If you have not created your PowerSchool Parent Portal account or need to add an additional student to your account, please click here for step-by-step instructions.

  • If you have not joined the JRMS PTA, there is still time!  Please contact rolfeptamembership@gmail.com for details.
  • We are looking forward to an entirely new world of opportunities for the 20-21 School Year!  The sky is the limit and your imagination and creativity will get us there!
  • We need you!!! It is time for next year’s planning.  The PTA is actively seeking individuals to support our students, staff, and school.  Take a moment to reach out to the board about assuming a position for the upcoming year! Thank you to those who have reached out and answered the call. And to those who haven’t, there is plenty of room at the table.  Please join us!

  • Technology issues and assistance. As Henrico County Public Schools have opened in a predominantly virtual environment, some adjustments are necessary for our students.  How students participate in the class meetings will influence the level of success experienced during each session.  Students are required to use a generic virtual background, found within Microsoft Teams, or school-issued backgrounds.  Students are not permitted to create their own virtual backgrounds.
  • In-person support for our students’ “critical technical issues” is available at JRMS.  Elementary or preschool students: In-person support for “critical technical issues” is available at the high school closest to you. For a list of high schools and addresses, visit this page.  Hours of support are 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For questions that are unrelated to computers or technology issues, please consider starting with your teacher, school counselor, me, or contact the Henrico County Public Schools hotline at 804-501-5655, 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middle School.  I hope this message finds your family safe and well!  We made it through our first week of virtual learning and could not have done it without you.  Parents, thank you for being great partners in our students’ and your child’s success for the upcoming year.  Our start to virtual learning was met with great collaboration to get the tools for students’ success. Please know we are working to address any technology needs and are all growing in our comfort of virtual learning!   Below are a few reminders and import links as well as notices for the week.

        • Broken screen or microphone.
        • Enable camera on middle/high-school laptop (all elementary device cameras are enabled.)
  • All non-critical issues can be emailed to helpdesk@henrico.k12.va.us and HCPS staff will respond as soon as possible.
  • Students who still need an HCPS-issued laptop and/or WiFi hotspot can get one at school while supplies last.
  • The parent/guardian picking up these items for a student must be listed in PowerSchool as a contact. Please bring your identification. Before you go, please be aware that each middle or high school may use either a walk-up line or a drive-through format. Contact the school if you have questions about where to locate the tech support/device distribution location. Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

    • Ready -There aren’t any bells this year in virtual learning.  Setting a timer and posting the bell schedule near a student’s workspace is a great tool to get ready.  Attempt to log into class at least 5 minutes before the stated time!
    • Safe- Your child’s password is private.  Please teach them to learn it, record it in a safe location, and don’t share it with other students.  Students should restrict their virtual communications with the sites provided or approved by their teacher.  Students are expected to follow the guidelines for acceptable use of Henrico County Technology and Devices.
  • We Need You! – Parents, we are looking to build and grow our PTA for the upcoming year!  Talents, time, ideas, and energy to help John Rolfe Middle School continue to rise in 2020 are welcome and appreciated.  Please contact me if you are willing to accept this opportunity to support our students! Greetings Rolfe Families,

This is Mrs. George, proud principal of John Rolfe Middle School, welcoming you to the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year!  I hope you and your family have remained safe and well throughout the summer.  It was great to talk with several of you during our Virtual Back to School Night.  To those who I have not met, I look forward to meeting you shortly.  We welcome our returning staff/teachers and a few new faces.  Below are a few reminders and import links as well as notices for the week.

John Rolfe Family we know our journey ahead is filled with uncharted waters.  We have been met with several questions to get us to the same end…growing the minds of our children.  I thank you for your questions, your efforts with technology, your patience with processes and equipment, and most of all your belief that our students will achieve.  To help with some of the questions you’ve asked or may have considered, please see the links below.

  •         Students will access their virtual classes through Microsoft TEAMs.  Classes/Individual student schedules are found on Schoology.  Students should attempt to log on early to ensure connection.  Teachers will allow students to enter their classes just as they would allow students to enter their classrooms.

Principal’s Update: Time Sensitive Back to School Information and Other Important Info

Parents and Guardians:

  • Immunization Requirements- Please ensure your child’s immunization records are current.  All 7th graders must have the proper records regarding immunization on file prior to the first day of school.
  • Sept. 3rd – JRMS Virtual Back to School Night… Rolfe Ready 2020!  JRMS will host a virtual back to school night for parents and students on September 3 from 6:30-8 pm. This will be a chance for families and teachers to connect and communicate expectations, meet with JRMS administration and support staff, as well as answer any specific questions before the start of school. Prior to September 3, please visit the Henrico County Schools website for information on online services  HCPS Return to School.   Also, students check out the JRMS web tomorrow.  There you will find information from our 6th Grade Team Lead, Mrs. Ethington, about Back to School Night and Being Rolfe Ready.   You must RSVP in order to attend this event.  Below are links to assist you:

  • SAVE the Date!  Back -to- School- Thursday, September 3rd will be our official “Kick off to School”!   Grade 6th – 8th Orientation to Virtual Learning at JRMS 2020.
  • Computer Assistance and Help Desks
    • In preparation for the 20/21 school year and the first 9 weeks virtual start, HCPS has been planning a solution for families that lack transportation to pick up a device for students. Stay tuned for a message regarding next steps.
    •  If Laptops develop problems, they can be brought to a mobile technology hub to be turned in for repair. Summer Hours of operations are: Beginning August 24, 2020, the hours are: Monday through Friday from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Mobile hub locations are:
      • Deep Run High School (4801 Twin Hickory Road, Glen Allen, Va.)
      • Douglas Freeman High School (8701 Three Chopt Road, Henrico, Va.)
      • Hermitage High School (8301 Hungary Spring Road, Henrico, Va.)
      • Highland Springs High School (15 S. Oak Ave., Highland Springs, Va.)
  • HCPS will loan you a Wi-Fi hot-spot device while supplies last– Additionally, Comcast is offering free and low-cost internet at this time for qualifying families. To see if you qualify for their promotion, visit Comcast’s “Internet Essentials” website. The website for the promotion is internetessentials.com/covid19.  If you want to apply for Internet Essentials over the phone, please call 1-855-8-INTERNET (1-855-846-8376).  Comcast’s call center hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.
  • Camera Installation Reminder – Technical support staff members are available to re-configure secondary laptops for middle and high school students in preparation for the 20/21 school year.
    • When:    Monday through Friday
    • Time:     8:30am through 12noon and 12:30pm through 4:00pm

Each location will practice safety precautions for COVID-19.  The technical support staff will be wearing masks and practicing additional safety precautions.  Each person that arrives to have their HCPS laptop serviced is requested to wear a mask and to practice social distancing.  Each line will have tape on the floor about 8 feet apart to help with social distancing.

Welcome to the 20-21 School Year! While schedules will be released at 4 pm today, Friday, August 28th, please know that these schedules are subject to change. Over the next week, counselors must still balance schedules to meet the needs of all students and do their best to not overcrowd any classes.  As always, please have your child note the schedule that is active in PowerSchool the first day of school and follow the September 8th active schedule.
